In counterpoint to Cecil’s public artistic output is the vast Skotnes family archive, which includes letters, telegrams, documents, news clippings, photographs, sketches and gifts collected over five decades by Thelma Skotnes, archivist extraordinaire. This archive offers an insight into the creative community Cecil and Thelma were part of, the way in which Cecil researched his subjects, constructed his own world and helped shape a vibrant period in South African art history.

We are currently adding to the archive, and developing online exhibits around some of the prominent themes within it. For more infomation please contact the Centre for Curating the Archive: hum-cca @ uct.ac.za
